A kangaroo is a MARSUPIAL found in Australia,
Tazmania and New Guinea.
There are over 30 types of kangaroo all have
powerful hind legs which are used for
hopping, long feet, short forelimbs
and a long muscular tail for maintaining
balance. The femal has a pouch in which she
suckles the newborn kangaroo also known as
the joey. The cheif grazers of the Australian
planes, kangaroos are diurnal and live in
herds. Great red kangaroo males may attain a
height of 7ft (210cm) and weigh over 200lb
(90kg). Small members of the kangaroo family
include the rabbit sized WALLABY and
pademelons. Kangaroos have been extensively
hunted for their valuble hides.
